A young girl stands alone and isolated in an environment that has been destroyed by fire and which still smolders. On her head she wears a wreath of dead brush: a parody of the wreath of flowers that represents new life and renewal in classical art. Life has been destroyed, but out of it a rich earth is created that will give new life. In this case it is a strawberry plant, which the girl holds cupped in her hands as she offers it to you, the viewer. The strawberry is the fruit of Venus; symbol of love and caring. I see this as a time of sadness and fear as our way of life has been brought abruptly to a halt. Like a fire scorching the earth, this virus has taken away the certitudes of our daily life and left us isolated from one another. But sometimes we need these cataclysmic events to make us stop and question where we are going and what we are doing. Perhaps from this time we will learn to reform our relationship with this beautiful earth and come to nurture it. Maybe we will learn that our connection with one another, with love and with caring, is more important than the next shiny possession, or the next exciting experience. This girl is this future leader and protector of humanity and the earth. She is here to offer you the one thing we need most right now: Hope!
