Notes of Self Isolation
photography

In this project I wrote a phrase or sentence each day since the quarantine was officially
established in Mexico around the first half of march 2020, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In these phrases or sentences I described the most relevant feeling, though or opinion I had
during that specific day, writing one over the other until the text was almost intelligible. I
wrote a total of 30 phrases or sentences for each day of the moth, covering March, April
and May and then, through digital processes, I put the text of each month on a photograph
that best represented that specific month in my personal life. In each image the text unveil
only a part of the photograph, based on the idea of how my notion of time, memories and
experience of my daily life and routines got affected by the current events.
In a post pandemic world we are more aware of how we are deeply connected globally, and
how something happening far away can have a real impact in our lives. At the same time,
the current situation has evidenced a need to address the role of digitality in contemporary
societies and human relationships more thoughtfully, as we recognize with more clarity its
participation in the way we interact with each other, its complexities, peculiarities, risks and
potentials not only in a personal level, but also in a global scale.
It could also function as catalyst for new ways of art production, collaborations and
manifestations, while digital art emerges with more power as a form of contemporary
production, having the quality and the possibility to exist without physical supports, also
leading us to reflect on the way art communities, spaces and institutions used to engage
with this form of art, how they used to address these topics and how they will approach all
of it in a post pandemic world, since even physical spaces have found different methods to
produce and share culture with societies in non-conventional ways due to current
circumstances.
If something good comes out from this situation, as artist I hope it will be massive cultural
and artistic manifestations, and new structures for different visions of art production; as
human being I hope there will be stronger, deeper and more meaningful ways of
experiencing our realities and relationships with each other, and I hope we will be more than willing to address topics and reflect on current situations happening in each society,
but also in this global community that, now more than ever, we know is deeply
interconnected.
