A View of the Writers' Buildings and more art by James Baillie Fraser

A View of the Writers' Buildings
13.2 x 18.2 inch (h x w)
Handtinted engraving on paper

A closer view of the Writer’ Building, while other artists have sketched from a further distance to showcase the entirety of Holwell’s memorial, Fraser has focused more on life around the memorial. While the building stands in the background, the foreground is occupied by the common people who are going about their lives, a man fixes his bullock-cart while another balances pots of water on his shoulders. Fraser’s views are more focused on the life that flourished around these buildings.
