An influential member of the Bengal School of Art, Asit Kumar Haldar’s paintings were often inspired by the murals and frescoes at Ajanta, and elements from Rajput and Pahari miniatures. This work depicts Queen Prabhavati, daughter of Emperor Chandra Gupta II, conducting the duties of the regency with her young son Divakara Sena on her lap. The artist brings out the intricate details of the courtly scene, rendered them with finesse and flourish.
