Forest-bathing and more art by Nancy Wood

In the past several decades there have been many scientific studies regarding the healing effects of simply being in wild and natural areas. These include stress reduction, increase in immune systems, mental performance, creativity, and better mood. It’s been noted that office workers display happier moods when surrounded by visuals of beautiful flowers. I’m hoping that the emphasis on the beneficial effects of nature will inspire viewers to discover and adopt sustainable practices as well.

I am a classically trained artist currently using photography and digital painting to explore the aesthetics of the natural landscape. The colors are intensified, and the forms are abstracted to express the mystical qualities one experiences while absorbed in the beauty of nature. I’m planning research to see if a similar effect, a type of aesthetic forest-bathing, can be produced through experiencing artworks that display the beauty of nature. My works are a blend of photography and digital painting based on my photographs of scenic areas in Texas. I have them printed on various substrates: canvas, aluminum or wood. I paint with acrylics or oils on the prints to add yet another dimension to the images. My works from this current series have been included in more than fifty regional and national exhibitions and have received many awards. They are included in several hospitals, health centers, and corporate environments.
