Artist Biography:
Driven by a passion for reconstructing the narratives of survivors of trauma, Tawny Skye is an interdisciplinary artist currently living in Memphis. In 2018, she started the first annual Me Too exhibition in Memphis with hopes of creating a supportive community. In this third year of participating in the Nasty Woman Show, she is working with materials outside of her usual ceramics practice. As a response to a worldwide pandemic and the need to keep creating, she uses everyday Makeup combined with stop motion animation to create surrealist imagery to depict what it is to cope with trauma.

Artist Statement:
As I look through the news in this time, I cannot help but feel as if we are living in the past. Echoes of Holocaust practices ring throughout a country meant to be for everyone. The moment a man with no regard for humanity deemed “nasty woman” an insult, it became a point of pride for me and many others who reject the ideals he portrays hourly. I participate as an act of resistance, following in the steps of my foremothers (the guerrilla girls, Ana mendieta, Yoko ono, Marina Ambromovic, and many more). My hope is that by participating in shows like this, we are able to continue the conversations that demand change and action.
