Polonca Lovšin has participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, among others: at Kunstverein Gera, Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge; A + A Gallery in Venice; as well as in Hamburg, Paris, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Liege, Bologna, Poznań, Celje, Slovenj Gradec, and at P74 Gallery, Ljubljana. She is a recipient of the »Zlata ptica (“Golden Bird”) Award« in 2010 for the visual arts. She has also participated in several international art residencies in Cambridge, Hamburg, Berlin, London, and California.

The collages are based on the research of self-sustainability of Slovenj Gradec.
The research was done in the frame of exhibition Public Speech, Koroška galerija, Slovenj Gradec.

After the decline of heavy industry, the opening of the market to foreign investors, the appearance of shopping malls, big-business takeovers, the collapse of the construction sector, and the economic crisis, Slovenj Gradec is seeking its identity. The many empty shops in the centre, the inactive farmers’ market, and unfinished construction sites reflect the situation. The experience of other small towns in today’s crisis have shown that local knowledge, the production of local food, and the inhabitants’ own entrepreneurial spirit can bring incredible changes for the better.
