Sister Rosetta Tharpe , 2020
20 x 16 in (h x w)
watercolor

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was the godmother of rock and roll. Starting in the early '50s, she began playing guitar in her church, and eventually brought her mixture of blues and gospel music to the entire country. She gave her all during every performance, whether it was in a church, at a train station, or at a jazz club, where she wouldn't be able to attend a show herself.
