Lill Tschudi was a student of the British Vorticist artist and teacher Claude Flight, a leading exponent of a British Modernist style that grew out of Futurism and Cubism. With abstracted, flattened forms that seem to burst from a strong gravitational center, Tschudi’s print is a characteristic Vorticist work.
During the 1920s, European art educators began to use linoleum blocks—which were cheaper and softer than woodblocks—for their students to make relief prints.
