(Gift Print, 1999)

Richard Long’s body of work includes stone circles that he builds in the wilderness, photographic and textual documentation of his walks, and enormous river mud circle drawings on the walls of art museums. The prints exhibited here come out of Long’s work with mud. The drips reveal the watery nature of this mud. Although mud would seem to be an improbable and “base” medium, what are paint or ink if not minerals held in suspension of water or oil? The three River Avon Mud Drawings prints were created as part of a series in which Editions Schellman, the publisher, invited thirty contemporary artists to each create three-part prints. Granolithography is a photolithographic process.
