Internationally recognized photographer and Des Moines native Anna Gaskell is best known for creating large-scale color photographs of young girls in psychologically-charged situations that elude specific narratives. Gaskell also creates films, video installations, and intimate black-and-white photographs. In these, she presents young girls as both innocent and sinister. They reach for their identities through social constructs or through a world of boundless freedom. Hospitalized for grave injuries she suffered and loss of family members as the result of a car crash, Gaskell often features girls dressed as nurses in her works, such as in the pure line etching she created for Print Club.
