Untitled and more art by Tara Donovan

(Gift Print, 2009)
Unlike many artists for whom both industrial artifacts and repetitive gestures are anathema, Tara Donovan assembles thousands upon thousands of common objects, such as paper cups, buttons, or drinking straws, into sculptures and installations of extraordinary beauty and sense of lightness.
Donovan brings her original vision and sense of materials to printmaking as well. To create this print, she filled a wooden frame with rubber bands. The oval rubber bands press gently against each other, giving a sense of fullness and elasticity like living cells. The rubber bands were sprayed with hairspray as a stiffening agent. Ink was rolled across the top of the rubber bands; paper was laid down and an impression was taken.
