Projekt “These humans did not feel” jest artystyczną eksploracją dziedziny domyślnie zarezerwowanej dla ludzi, a nie dla sztucznej inteligencji - odczuwanych emocji. Wraz z postępem w jakości generowanych obrazów przez głębokie sieci neuronowe, autorka projektu się zastanawia, jak dobrze modele sztucznej inteligencji potrafią odwzorować emocje, a również - jak sztucznie wykreowane emocje potrafią poruszyć widza. Projekt składa się z 10 wygenerowanych przez głęboką sieć neuronową zdjęć, prezentujących emocje. Celowo zostały wybrane refleksyjne oraz bliższe smutkowi emocje, by sprowokować reakcję u widza i skłonić do refleksji nad “prawdziwością” prezentowanych uczuć osób, które przecież nigdy nie istniały. Model został wyuczony na podzbiorze zdjęć z kolekcji The Metropolitan Museum of Art, zawierającym zdjęcia uzyskane przez muzeum między 1917 a 2019 r., w tym takich klasycznych fotografów jak Pierre-Louis Pierson, Mathew B. Brady, John and Charles Watkins, Emile Gsell i innych.

The project "These humans did not feel" is an artistic exploration of a domain reserved for humans and not artificial intelligence - felt emotions. With the advances in the quality of images generated by deep neural networks, the author of the project wonders how well artificial intelligence models can represent emotions and how artificially created feelings can move the viewer. The project consists of 10 images generated by a deep neural network, presenting emotions. Reflective and sad emotions were chosen to provoke a viewer's reaction and make him reflect on the "truthfulness" of the given feelings of people who never existed. The model was culled from a subset of photographs from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection, which includes images acquired by the museum between 1917 and 2019, including such classic photographers as Pierre-Louis Pierson, Mathew B. Brady, John and Charles Watkins, Emile Gsell, and others.
