Luxurious and more art by Alexandra Nieuwoudt

Luxurious, 2021
100 x 150 cm (h x w)
# Digital Phography

The hurdles that people who menstruate have to go over are appalling. Tampons, and other menstrual products, are not a luxury, they are a necessity, yet people who experience periods have to pay
unreasonable amounts of money for them. Did you know that in the UK, 1 in 10 girls can’t afford to buy menstrual products? The cultural shame and stigmatization attached to menstruation and the shortage of resources all over the world stop us from going to school or work. The experiences and consequences of period poverty are catastrophic.
