Immunity Community - a creative endeavour and more art by Eva Malone

Immunity Community - a creative endeavour, 2021
75 x 100 cm (h x w)

This is a snapshot capturing the Immunity Community team of 2021 in the midst of a collaborative, interdisciplinary, cross-curricular teaching and learning project using scaffolded learning and creative arts based learning. The blended approaches used allowed us to collaborate from near and afar so we could bring together science, drama, product design, film making and technology from Ireland and Scotland. Missing from the picture is the 20 students, from three high schools, that collaborated in mixed groups to integrate their knowledge of immunology and HPV vaccines with an artistic process to convey their messages, in their own voice, in their own way, in their own style to advocate for HPV vaccination. The project was a collaboration between Edinburgh Napier University, Maynooth University and the Irish Cancer Society funded by the Irish Research Council. The acrostic captures the fun of the week.

The Immunity Community team included, Dr Iain Macdonald, Head of Design Innovation (Maynooth University); Dr Céline Healy, Programme Leader Masters in Education (Maynooth University); Leah Woolfson, Professional Masters of Education Student (Maynooth University); Dr Eva Malone, Programme Leader Biological Sciences Undergraduate Suite; Fern Fairgrieve, Biomedical Science Undergraduate Student; Miguel Cortijo Martinez, Applied Microbiology Undergraduate Student; Dr Richard Firth, Programme Leader Product Design; Jamie Walker, Product Design Graduate; Dr Claire Kilty, Research Manager (Irish Cancer Society) and Dr Robert O’Connor, Research Director (Irish Cancer Society). All with a passion for their subject disciplines and interdisciplinary, collaborative working and learning.
