Get Future Ready: S4 Work Experience Project and more art by Nicola Kennedy/Mel Kinchant

Get Future Ready: S4 Work Experience Project, 2021

This podcast provides an overview of Get Future Ready; a short, online programme for S4 school pupils who meet our Widening Participation criteria. The aim is to provide young people with an insight into career opportunities whilst promoting career exploration activities. The programme has been developed in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) and in collaboration with academic and other professional services staff, as well as Edinburgh Napier students. The programme, which has been designed in accordance with the SQA Curriculum for Excellence and Career Education Standard, aims to provide both the participating young people and students authentic work ‘tasks’. Through their involvement, students have gained the opportunity to develop their own employability skills. We wanted to showcase the project, explain the rationale, and talk a little further about some of the principles behind the programme design, along with the potential benefits to young people and the students involved.

Mel Kinchant is an Academic Skills Adviser (Academic Skills team) and a Senior Widening Participation Officer (Widening Participation) at Edinburgh Napier University. She is also an Academic Skills Tutor on the Lothians Equal Access Programme for Schools (LEAPS) transition course.
