My work examines the identity of industrialized materials. Through the use machine carving, I investigate patternmaking. The formal language of digital design – perfect curves, repetitive shapes and linear offsets – translates into tangible objects through programmed CNC-routed paths. Both the material and painted surface become aspects of the composition. The hairline thickness of a layer of glue in a piece of plywood expands to an uncertain universe, giving room to explore and celebrate the nature of material.
