Night and day protecting sea turtles

A volunteer from the DEKAMER recovery center in Turkey makes sure that released turtles find their way to the sea. Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta ) build their nests at about 50-60 cm depth on the beach, green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) at about 90-100 cm depth. Clutches of eggs are between 50-100 and each egg is about the size of a ping pong ball. The incubation period is between 45-65 days. Sexual maturity takes 25-30 years in sea turtles. Only 3-5 of every thousand hatchlings can survive until full maturity.
