Tania Matilda completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT in 2017 after a long and uneventful career in administration (her words). An intensely prolific drawer, Matilda explores themes of fragmentation and experiments with shapes and forms and the way they intertwine with each other.
Influenced by the haphazard automatic drawings from the early 20th century, Matilda’s pen wanders around sharp, intersecting forms. Using found refuse as objet trouvé – two cupboard doors and a window for example – her scavenger’s eye and brush sharply describe neo-Cubist triumphs of composition, suggestive of the best of Futurism’s graphic poster legacy.
