Oil on canvas

Artist Statement
As an oil painter I found myself eventually moving away from heavily preconceived compositions to keeping my thought process on the canvas; through washes and line, I compose an abstracted narrative. This piece is part of The Women series which is a compilation of different stages or details of a woman’s life and the things she holds as priorities, joys and duties. A most important stage of life is that of childbirth and the holding of one’s child thus New Beginnings is the first in this series. In softer tones, this piece is a quiet moment between mother and child.

Biography
Michelle Eissler is a visual artist with a background in Art & Art History from the University of Toronto and Interpretive Illustration from Sheridan College. Living in a small town north of Toronto, she has focussed her practice on oil painting and has moved away from conventional compositions. Developing her own voice with a distinct style in the past few years, she composes abstracted narratives on canvas, dubbed “quilted abstracts” for their attention to pattern and colour. These pieces often require some interpretation of their content, and invite the viewer to study the forms and detail to decipher their story.
