Acyrlic and Mixed Media on Canvas

As a surgical inpatient at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), I learned that nurses call it “Arts and Crafts” when they use scissors and various adhesives to create customized wound coverings for patients. Nurses are not allowed to remove unused materials once they are placed in a patient’s room so I brought the extras home with me and used them in this piece as a tribute to the extraordinary care I received at KHSC.

Tanya is an artist, writer, photographer and Patient Experience Advisor with Kingston Health Sciences Centre. She reconnected with painting in the early stages of pandemic lockdown while participating in a virtual workshop series called “Together Apart” led by artist Flora Bowley. Tanya’s painting style is intuitive and exploratory, using layers of acrylic paint, ink, watercolours and other media to discover feelings and growth in her healing journey.
