It took many months to finally finish this little project but I kept note along the way. Here are some of my thoughts on it and why I think it may relate to this exhibition about patient safety, etc.

I started curious camaraderie while thinking about why we have the fears we do; fears about the unknown, death, pain, having difficult discussions with people or especially the ones we love. And how could I train my thoughts to have a new healthy pattern of dealing with the various uncomfortableness that life will/have already thrown at me. I happened to also be reading the book, ‘Holding Space: on loving, dying, and letting go’ by Amy Wright Glenn. As corny as this may sound, During this time and pondering these thoughts and attempting to understand these existential situations the pieces of the image I was thinking about came together in a dream. So then I started.

The fire to me symbolizes love, compassion, understanding, patience. It brings me to tears typing this out to you right now, because it really doesn’t sound like a difficult thing. It doesn’t seem difficult to show yourself and others patience, love, and all the above.
We as humans are wired to ask why and how, that’s why I believe, the fear of the unknown (the owl character in the art piece) has plagued many for who knows how long. But we’re all in it together, us and the unknown, and love, understanding, patience, lights a warm glow in the darkness and is of outmost importance and a right for every single being on this planet.

I am a self taught artist, living in northern sask. My daily mantra in not only art but life itself is to ‘always be learning’ in a humble and honest way.
