Electrical engineer Henry Beck sketched this first modern London Underground subway map in 1931. Whereas prevailing maps showed stations in their exact geographic locations, Henry's simplified design showed only the relationships between stations, inspired by the principles of drawing complex electrical circuitry. The idea, now ubiquitous, was experimental at the time and initially rejected by management.
