"This painting was inspired by a talk I listened to by Mac Macartney in 2019 at ""Into the Wild"" festival. His colourful lyrical language and passion for a positive future touched me deeply.
I had heard of the ""Seventh generation principle"" where Native American indigenous elders lived with the intention that every decision was made with the well-being of the next seven generations of all beings in mind. Mac brought this to life with his description of how the chiefs had built a small fire for the children in the centre of their circle and they pledged their allegiance to this principle.
Mac explains: ""The Children’s Fire is a pledge to the welfare of unborn future children (human and non-human alike) but more profoundly it’s a pledge to life, a commitment to the responsibility carried by each successive generation to safeguard the vitality and regenerative capacity of the earth. It insists on a circular economy and it views any action that compromises the wellspring of creativity from which our species has emerged as sacrilege, an act of betrayal, evidence hinting at insanity.
The Children’s Fire invites us to be the best we can be. It is an invitation to a lifetime journey of deepening alignment with life. It sets us a challenge. It invites us to walk in beauty, participate generously, appreciate the inner journey as much as the outer, and it defines value in terms of what we give, not what we pretend to own.""
The Ammonite fossil, as well as having deep personal meaning for me, were one of the longest living creatures ever. and date back to 420 milllion years ago. They contain ancient life force energy that we can tap into today. A symbol of change and positive motion, the Ammonite here brings balance, stability and possibility.
Great Spirit, Help us to walk gently upon Grandmother Earth. ❤"
