I had a dog that would pounce on his food as if he was a ferocious animal. I thought it would be cute to see a cat imagine itself as a tiger. White Siberian Tigers were on my to-do list of tiger pieces and its unique white coat just fit perfectly with this idea. I define “cattitude” as “to think like a tiger!” In other words, think big! Go after one’s goals like an animal! Doing a scratchboard of an animal with white fur was challenging. I had to figure out how to make the fur details stand out. After scratching the entire piece, I brushed a light wash of diluted ink over it. When it was thoroughly dry, I re-scratched it and left some of the gray wash showing through. It was a fun piece to do and a little out of my comfort zone of straight forward portraits.
