Red Pandas are on the endangered species list. They are not actually related to the bigger black and white pandas that we're familiar with. These Red Pandas have a lot of personality! They’re found in the Himalayas and southwestern China. They’re not very big in size. The head to body length is around 20-25 inches and the tail adds on another 11-19 inches. They weigh around 33 lbs. They are victims of illegal poaching and trade as well as habitat loss. When two red pandas approach each other and feel threatened, they will stand on their hind legs, raise both forelimbs above their heads, and stare at each other. It almost appears as if they are greeting each other but they’re not! This is the posture they take just prior to lunging and swiping with their paws. I researched numerous images to learn more about them and this one with the tongue sticking out seemed to capture the look just right. They are adorable to look at. Disney actually made a movie about them called, “Turning Red.”
