Artist Statement: Syprian Harvey is a self-taught metal artist and painter living in the Allegheny Mountains in Western Maryland. He shares a studio with his artist wife and muse in Allegany County, Lavale, MD, across from a cemetery where much of his inspiration comes from. He began creating art a little over a half century ago when he lived in Germany while teaching Philosophy and English. In his own words, “I am often uncomfortable when I start a new piece of art. I usually just grab any piece of metal, close my eyes, and finger it...it usually tells me what it wants me to do, not I, but it, the metal guides me.” Syprian’s metal sculpture has been collected throughout the United States and a forty foot tall public sculpture resides in The Village of West Greenville located in South Carolina.
Artist Description: Persephone Rising is my ode to the Earth and her seasons. What is given, is also taken away. May Hades obsession never become too dear.
