Diary Drawing Day 59 , 1997
30.5 x 22.9 cm (h x w)
Watercolour and pencil on paper

Oh, It's quite hard to come up with a drawing every day. And at that stage I did a drawing every day, I went into the day centre. After a while that became really oppressive. So I changed it to a drawing a week because I could fit that around my life better and I stopped going to the day centre every day, but I did a lot of mugs. And I just particularly love this mug. Technically, I was very proud of it. Because of the way the paint... you know, the way I made it look so accurate. I just love that sort of my tea or coffee bursting out. There's something very soothing about getting myself organised with a cup of tea, get my paints out. Yeah, that sort of wild little figure bursting out and then the kind of rather naff, you know, double drawing of sort of repeating it with a tiny version, because I could see my sketchbook when I was looking at the mug. My sketchbook was creeping in and my drawing was creeping in, so it was quite accurate really, like still life drawing. Yeah, like that. And the tiny little face, anguished face. And I've written at the top "hurray!".
