This black and white photograph shows a naked woman, sitting in a bathtub, clasping her knees to her body. She is translucent as though she is fading away and her identity is hidden by the long hair covering her face. The bathroom appears unclean derelict, and destitute, with an exposed concrete floor, and smashed windows.
Yvonne Foster uses her art as a way to process complex memories and traumatic emotions from childhood. It brings order to the chaos she experienced enabling her to share her experiences.
I selected this photograph as I was interested in the way women used art to express personal experiences set in the domestic sphere or interior space in contrast to traditionally masculine subjects and settings.
