Bird
28 x 25.4 cm (h x w)
Hand embroidery mixed textile and mixed threads

This small-scale, vibrant textile piece depicts a bird, possibly a parrot, landing on a perch. The artist has embroidered the bird using a rich assortment of red, orange and gold-coloured threads, contrasted with a purple, fan-shaped tail.

Cecilia Montague created this artwork having spent time working in a zoo. She has made a number of textile pieces, as her much of her work is inspired by the world of fashion.

I selected this piece as I am passionate about highlighting craft, which can be seen as a lesser artform. However, this textile piece is a perfect example of the beauty and sophistication of craft.
