Imposter , 2023
Oil on 18x24 inch Recycled Wood

"This piece explores the difficult reality of having to deal with imposter syndrome. Imposter
syndrome is something that many artists struggle with, as it is when an individual struggles with
things such as doubting their own abilities, success, and accomplishments, and feeling like a
“fraud”, or an “imposter”. Individuals with imposter syndrome may compare themselves with
their peers and those who surround them, with this being detrimental to their mental health. In
my piece, I depict a clown, or an “entertainer”, one of whom puts on a mask to hide their true
self from others, fearing that people may not like them for who they are. It is important to care
and heal from things like this, as the clown wipes off his makeup and finally unmasks himself,
finally feeling like he belongs and moving past the obstacle of impostor syndrome."
