This painting was worked on in Amanda Sage’s Regeneration course, along with many hours on the Vision Train. My Desert Dryad is based on a graphite drawing I created for Stefan Lucas‘s Grounded Visions Vitra Academy course and greatly inspired by my love for the desert landscapes of Arizona. In particular, the bendy, twisty junipers residing in the red rock mountains near Sedona. The natural vortex energies of the Earth seem to coax the flora into wondrous shapes.
Applying acrylic paints in thin transparent layers, (using a variation of the mischtechnik), helped me to reveal the forms hidden amongst the natural forms of the bark, leaves, rocks, and landscape. The pareidolia effect of pattern recognition as I see the landscape before me coming to life.
