Immigrants are the backbone of the USA and almost all cultures except Natives or First Nation. Immigration has been an ongoing story and battle for many years in almost every country. There are the documented and undocumented immigrants that seek a new life and the American Dream. I immigrated to the US with my Mother in 1971 from Guatemala. I am a first-generation immigrant and proud to be a Guatemala American. I carry the genes of my ancestors and the cultural assimilation as an American citizen. In the assimilation I met my mother’s American Dream. In my art life these last 10 years, I have achieved my American Dream. This art piece depicts the Mayan God, Itzamna. In Maya mythology, he is considered an upper God or creator deity and thought to reside in the sky. I’ve drawn him here with patterns and spilt wine to represent that often we look up to the sky and ask God, whether in Mayan Mesoamerica times or today, to help us achieve our dream.
