Lady Liberty or Libertas represents the goddess of freedom. Acting as a beacon for those seeking shelter and sanctuary. She is quite literally the personification of matriarchal characteristics. Viewing her from above and half submerged gives the viewer a sense of her monumental task and the continual challenge of it.

Diana-Sofia Estrada is a Guatemalan American visual artist/educator born and raised in Houston, Texas. Estrada’s work questions ideas of visibility, accessibility, and conversations to interpret everyday events through drawings, installations, performance, and video. Estrada has exhibited her work internationally and nationally including Diaspora Vibe Gallery (Miami), Alice Yard Space (Trinidad), Box 13 (Houston, Texas), and Artlab at the Smithsonian Hirschhorn Museum in Washington D.C.
