This image is from an ongoing series 'Into the Woods'. Walks, nature and contemplation took up a lot of time during lockdown and allowed this work to continue. The inspiration for this work was taken from Malevich's black square painting - a non-representational starting point. I took a sheet of printed black photographic paper and let the woods express itself through traces, as I marked the paper with bark, thorns and captured the reflections of light and shadow on the print surface. The experience of the woods is a temporal one - full of fleeting noises and continual cycles of death and rebirth. The woods hold many timeless metaphors and lessons - much of which is mirrored in human experience. I hope to offer a puzzle piece, to bring out a question or thought - or better yet to merely still a mind.
