The company Anton Appunn from Hanau near Frankfurt built interval apparatuses for Carl Stumpf's experiments. Together with Appunn, Stumpf conducted sound analyses on the organ as well as psychoacoustic investigations. Later, other companies also offered such acoustic devices.
The Appunn company also built instruments for Hermann von Helmholtz.
