This work tells the heartbreaking story of isolated elderly people through COVID-19. Working in a long-term care home throughout this pandemic, I have had the opportunity to interact regularly with the residents. The inspiration of this piece comes from interactions with these residents, in which they have expressed feelings of isolation, worry, and hopelessness. They spend their time missing their families and craving human contact, which they cannot safely receive within this pandemic. This piece is set in an empty visiting room of a care home, showing elderly hands reaching out for each other, desperate for any connection. They fight against the bubbles that cover their hands, reflective of the social bubbles of isolation meant to keep them safe, in an effort to obtain a connection. This raw piece allows for an opportunity for the elderlies voices to shine through the chaos of the current pandemic, reflecting the exhaustion felt by the generation through the words of a vast group of resilient elderly individuals. The stories and emotions of this older generation portrayed through this work reflects the ultimate in resilient strength that comes from persevering through these hardships.
