I'm an artist based in Toronto most of my time is spent in the city juggling life as it comes and always finding ways to apply what happens in this world to my work. That being said, life here in Toronto has taken a great turn due to covid and the pandemic, as shown in my piece "Misdirection." One of the major themes that I wanted to cover in my work is communication and how it has been difficult to understand people and the confusion that myself and others have experienced during this pandemic. As shown in my self-portrait where I seem to have a frustrated anguished expression, as well as an explosion of traffic signs, hands and birds. My expression depicts how I have been feeling with miscommunication during this pandemic and how social media has been giving false information. Although things have been difficult during covid, I believe I have found some peace. I decided to place two beautiful Northern birds with one of my hands feeding them with a peanut. These two birds have been visiting my apartment window ever since covid and I have found a way out of all the noise and mess by simply feeding them. we get so caught up with all the confusion, misdirection and communication that we forget to just be silent for a second and take a break and realize that we aren't all doomed but there's still light at the end of the tunnel. There's always a way out.
