Disposable mask, white glue on paper
[CC2021-01]

I drew a map of my neighbourhood, Roncesvalles, and covered the roads and streets with disposable masks that I cut off by hand. The idea behind it came from the fact that I moved to this neighbourhood during the summer, and my experience living here has been limited to and defined by the pandemic, and the isolation and lockdown impositions. I felt that my experience of space couldn’t be separated from what we are currently going through, as so much of how I navigate the outside, as well as how I spend my time inside, is inextricably influenced and dictated by the public health guidelines. I also found it meditative to really observe and play with the disposable mask by taking it apart and using different parts of it as representations of roads and streets which worked out surprisingly well due to the dots and lines present in the design of it. The addition of the loops is to evoke the mask and to amplify the omnipresence of it in every aspect of our lives and experiences over the past year.
