Mac Hewitt
Since leaving Scotch College, I’ve completed a Bachelor's Degree in Animation and worked within that industry for the last few years. Recently, my partner and I have created a business running art programs for people with disabilities.
My art incorporates my love for animation and figure drawing. Working within Acrylic and digital mediums, my work focuses on creating kaleidoscopic dream states. Throughout my work, I utilise traditional approaches towards
painting and image creation with modern techniques for abstraction
and expression.
“Sun, Moon and Tahlia”
This Artwork revisits the fairytale “Sun, Moon and Tahlia” which was later adapted into what we know today as Sleeping Beauty.
The Fairytale describes a scene where a king rapes a sleeping woman and impregnates her with twins. The King is never held responsible or even recognised as committing a crime. The story illustrates the contrast in values between their time and the present. Today, the adaptions of this story have children as the target demographic. I wanted to shed light on how audiences can consume immorality when presented gleefully and today the revaluation of these stories has conjured up cancel culture.
Cheers,
Mac
