Marigold Plunkett’s work is an investigation into the human condition through line and mark-making. Her practice is a personal journey of self-discovery, attempting to make the fleeting and intangible more visible and permanent. The intaglio process lends a metaphorical and material depth to Marigold’s work-emphasising the human dualities and dichotomies that are pivotal to her practice.

The etching ‘Elliott Looking’ is a portrait of Marigold’s daughter made during lockdown when there was time for slow observation. This portrait focuses on the significance of the gaze and its ability to express complex emotions within a look. The subject's expression reflects both a fragility and a fierce strength. The light and dark qualities that etching naturally inhabits is given a contemporary feel in this portrait. ‘The Boy’ and ‘Flea and Me’ are a part of an on-going series based on a collection of old family photographs reimagined through etching.

Marigold graduated from Camberwell College of Arts, UAL, in 2020 with an MA Printmaking. She exhibits regularly, having had etchings in both the INGdiscerning Eye’s annual exhibition and The Ingram Prize. She won the graduate Artichoke Print Prize and the 2020 Ingram Prize, Founders Choice. Marigold has recently been selected to become a member of the ArtCan Artist’s Collective.
