Nanette Wallace’s monotypes feature an imaginative narrative that often toe the line between elegant and uncomfortable. Her gestural figures are an emotional response to past and present experiences with a deep connection to water, light and nature.

Nanette finds much joy in the spontaneous nature of monotypes. Her greatest successes occur when she allows the medium to guide her in a process of surrendering the work to unknown outcomes to see what might be gained and lost. Nanette generally creates her monotypes with one pass through the press, she then uses the ghost image left on the plate to start the next monotype in what can often be an endless process of creation and re-creation. These methods of making also echo the themes of her work which often focus on letting go.

Nanette received a BFA from Oregon State University with an emphasis in figure drawing and printmaking. Among other honors she was awarded the “Norma Siebert” full tuition printmaking scholarship, along with a grant to study photographic plate lithography. 

Her work has been featured in numerous solo, invitational and juried exhibitions, as well as international printed publications and features. Additionally, Nanette spent her formative years as a letterpress printer and award-winning graphic artist.
