Chrissie Craig’s practice examines themes of memory, absence and duration through the imagery of industrial ruins. Recent work investigates the relationship between the intangible and transitory characteristics of memory and spaces that are invested with redundant social and cultural meaning — meaning that still resonates when only traces remain. The Wandle series was inspired by walking the South London river whose fast-flowing waters were harnessed by millers and textile producers centuries before William Morris set up at Merton Abbey Mills. Though later development marginalised the waterway, traces of former narratives still resonate strongly and it is her interest in these liminal spaces that informs her current practice. Starting with analogue photographs, she explores the aesthetics of the uncanny, absence and decay as photoetchings, direct transfer and digital prints.

Chrissie has exhibited extensively in London venues, including Bankside Gallery, Espacio, the Menier Gallery and previous Woolwich Contemporary Print Fairs. In 2020 she completed an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell UAL and her work was selected for the London Grads Now exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea.
