Seasonal change in the natural world is the source of inspiration for Jo McChesney's woodcuts. Her prints focus on transient moments in time, such as ripples on water, and the shift in light and shadow. It draws attention to natural fleeting happenings evoking the continual change and flux of the natural world.

Recent work returns to the theme of silent ancient woodlands. By using collected drawings and juxtaposing these with memories of woods, she carves, prints and layers images into a final woodcut. These prints evoke the changing light from the glow of dense woodland dusk, and looming shapes, to high contrast starkly lit trees against a moonlit sky, and the moon itself emanating its green glow.

Jo McChesney studied illustration at Bath Academy of Art and later went to Japan to study woodcut printmaking.

She has exhibited in the UK and Japan. In 2020 wells Contemporary, and the RWA, and three times at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
