Mychael Barratt is a narrative printmaker and cartographer who has worked in virtually every print medium possible.

His work combines a love of storytelling and art historical research with a desire to create work that exemplifies his respect for the craftsmanship of printmaking. His homages are serious but always tinged with humour and genuine affection for the source.

Soho Altarpiece is a ten-panel silkscreen and etching with hand-colouring. It started with a fascination of the work of Jan Van Eyck, and in particular his Ghent Altarpiece which was featured in a once in a lifetime exhibition in Belgium in 2020. The work is designed similar to Van Eyck’s master work but only three of the panels follow his subject matter. Those are the outside panels of Adam and Eve and the central panel of Christ, the Redeemer (in which he honoured Dr John Snow, the father of modern epidemiology). The other panels feature renowned Soho haunts and habitues as well as a narrative map of the area.

Mychael is a past President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and his work is in a number of important collections including the British Library, the British Museum and HM The Queen.
