In the century of China, it’s ironic that a Chinese curse should be relevant, to wit, “may you live in interesting times”. So in these interesting times when Covid has driven us apart and indoors, it has been diverting to look again at some elements of photography outside my usual interests in street, landscape and portraiture. It is wonderful and an inspiration that Magnet continues to foster photography in Australia and to produce contemporary exhibitions - thank you to Susanne, Michael and Daniel. Susanne challenges us under the theme “still living” which picks up the way that my interest has turned to still life and the occasional exercise walk around my neighbourhood and my garden. Canberra can be strikingly moody in the depths of winter and beauty can lie in the minutiae of life. Likewise creating a simple still-life in my kitchen and inspiration from seasonal changes during lockdown.
