Wood Carving

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

Amin loves to work with nature, using natural elements like wood, metal and stones. His artwork features many parallels within religious and spiritual devotions. The piece, entitled “Allah” is engraved on a walnut platter. He turned the platter on a lathe and engraved the design on a CNC router.

The single word Allah, Arabic for “GOD”, is carved on the base of a minaret of the Mosque of Al-Hakim. It resonates like a call of God within a circle with five loops, in turn, framed by two interlacing pentagons. The number five may hint at the “Five Persons of the House (of Muhammad),” i.e. Muhammad, Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husayn, especially revered by Shi’is, and Ismaili’s included.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Amin worked as an electronics service technician in the printing and packaging industries for over forty-five years. While working there, he used to spend his free time in their graphic design studios and developed an interest in digital graphic design, engraving as well as carving wood. He now has a good working knowledge of numerous creative computer programs. As an artist, he loves to engage in the arts, sciences, engineering and technology, and this is evident in his work.
