"My work is exploring the stereotypical view of good and evil. To most of us, characters with darker colours like black and purple seem to represent evil while characters with lighter colours like blue and lavender and warm colours like red represent goodness. However in this illustration, I used the exact opposite colour palette to represent good and evil.
Luna, the girl on the right hand side, has the colour palette that usually represents darkness and evil. But in fact she actually represents the good side of this artwork. Although the colour palette for her is dark, you can see that in darkness there is light. As you can see, there are lights and stars shining through the dark black background that symbolises corruption and evilness , to show that although she looks evil, her good nature shines through the evilness. She also has white butterflies flying from one of her hands, which represents her purity. Her necklace is white and shining, which represents her kindness and goodness. She also carries a bow in another hand of hers to show her strong sense of justice and also shows that she’s the ‘good’ side. She holds the bow in a way that shows that she is not addicted to the power given to her.
On the other hand, Prisma, a character inspired by one of my favourite villains in a Disney cartoon series, has the colour palette that usually represents kindness and goodness. However she is the representation of the evil side in this illustration. You can see that she has a beautiful dress with pearls and crystals on it. She also has a crystal staff that contains magic which makes her the most powerful person in her land. Her action of holding it close shows that she enjoys the power and is quite corrupted. She does not use the power given to her for doing good things and she’s trying to rule the land. She is addicted to her powerfulness. Although the crystals surrounding her look shiny and glamorous, they have cracks and some weird splashes of darker lavender colours on them. She also has a necklace just like Luna, but the core of her necklace is not shining. It is turning black. It is to symbolise that her glamorous appearance is just a facade and her true nature is evil and corrupted. The lavender-ish background with black smokes is to symbolise her slowly corrupting self and evil slowly overtaking and consuming her."
