The simplicity of this image leads to thoughtful meditation. This is one of my all-time favorites. It was taken not long after dawn in late October and it had been pouring rain a few minutes before I took the image.
To me, the photo almost looks like a Japanese work of art. The composition becomes almost abstract, and it is only a few dying lily pads that help give away whether the image is right-side-up. The varying shades unify the composition and create an interesting contrast with the blue creating a sense of vibrant life and the yellow, life drawing to a close. A sense of peace or calm seems to grow the longer one looks at the image. The slightly curving reeds convey graceful movement and add to the feeling of calm.
