Somewhere there is a void for doggies. Somewhere there is a void for balls. Sometimes these voids appear in the same place at the same time.
Ball Doggy is a short animation done with techniques learned during the Animation Minor. This is an exploration of 3D-to-2D animation, meaning using 3D models and rigs for animating, but mimicking a 2D look in the render. The animation is done entirely in Blender, utilizing traditional 3D animation techniques with some procedural techniques mixed in.
Ball Doggy represents perfectly the type of mood and aesthetic Lappi wanted to explore with animations, i.e. humorous, alien, and outlandish, with things that all of us recognize, placed inside a realm that functions with its own logic.
Ball Doggy, and other animations in this style, can be seen on Lappi’s YouTube channel (Mikko Lappi via Youtube).
